Preparing to breastfeed

Yes. The size of your breasts is not important when it comes to breastfeeding your baby. What does matter is the way you feed your baby. If you let your baby breastfeed on demand there will be enough milk to feed him.

No, this doesn't help a bit, it can actually do a lot of harm. Your breasts and nipples were made to breastfeed and don't need preparation.

 

Yes, there are special meetings for woman preparing to breastfeed. You can find the organisations offering these meetings at www.borstvoeding.nl. Lactationconsultants also offer special courses.

Working and breastfeeding

When your baby is taking the breast easily you can start offering a bottle or pacifier when your baby is between 4 to 6 weeks old. Before that time your baby may confuse the different techniques from breast and bottle/ pacifier. This is called nippleconfusion, wich means that your baby tries drinking at the breast like it's a bottle.

Increasing or decreasing your milk supply

The only "trick" is to put your baby to the breast more often. The more your baby drinks, the more milk your breasts will produce
